Biography

Charlotte Esser studied biology at the universities of Cologne and Tübingen, and at Duke University, North Carolina. She received her PhD in immunology at the University of Cologne, Germany, in 1990. Her research focus at the Institute for Environmental Medical Research has been the immunotoxicology of xenobiotic substances and their interference with signal transduction pathways and Tcell differentiation programs. Other topics of her research interest include protective strategies against UVB-induced immunosuppression, and genetic susceptibility loci to autoimmune diseases. She is Professor of Immunology at the University of Düsseldorf.
