Antigen

Ladinin (LAD-1, now known to be an epitope of BPAg2).

Some patients have antibodies to collagen VII.

Pathophysiology:

Antibody deposits lead to complement activation and neutrophil accumulation at the basement membrane zone.

Release of proteases by neutrophils and degradation of basement membrane proteins produces blister.
