SUWS Youth & Adolescent
One of the oldest and most respect wilderness programs, SUWS has been helping children and teens for over 25 years.
SUWS measures its success in many ways, from the smiles on the faces of the young people who now understand their worth to the willingness of parents to share their SUWS experience with other families in crisis.
We know that human beings need and want to contribute to a larger cause. At SUWS the search and rescue metaphor is the vehicle by which this is accomplished. From learning primitive-living skills to basic orienteering and first-aid techniques, students are personally challenged. In the midst of giving themselves, they find themselves.
At SUWS, young people identify and work through internal conflicts and emotional obstacles that have kept them from responding to parental efforts, schools, and other interventions. Our students are inherently good and have the ability to be successful, but because of unhealthy misperceptions about themselves, they have limited access to their own abilities and strengths. SUWS allows teens to reconnect with themselves and their families.
