Outback Can Help
As seen on Dr. Phil and Inside Edition, Outback offers a uniquely powerful program with the most compelling results for teens who have been particularly rebellious and resistant to intervention. Outback's program has been particularly helpful for teens that plan to attend a longer term boarding school.
The Outback philosophy is a strengths-based model which focuses on building strong relationships of trust, supporting the child through the process of change instead of "breaking them down" to build them up again. This approach allows the clinical team to work out specific structures, assignments, activities to understand, assess and help the student make significant progress during a student's stay.
Outback feels it is critical for students to continue their education during treatment, rather than taking a break from school altogether. Outback, in conjunction with Pine Ridge Academy, has designed a unique academic program that helps students continue their education while receiving intense clinical support, treatment, and development.
This program uses certified teachers and approved educational materials / curriculum in four areas of Utah State Office of Education approved curriculum; Health II, PE, Art, and Life Skills.
Each student has the potential to earn one semester's worth of academic credit in each course during a typical 6 week stay. This is the same credit available during a full quarter in a traditional school setting.
Why choose wilderness? The wilderness setting acts as a catalyst that moves students out of their comfort zone. As students adjust to their new surroundings, Outback counselors observe their negative habits and positively involve students in safe, constructive activities, and in therapeutic sessions where students begin to think more insightfully and replace negative thoughts and habits with positive ones.
